Fried Cornmeal Mush

Ingredients:

• 4 cups water, divided
• 1 cup cornmeal
• 1 tsp salt
• Oil for frying
• Maple syrup

Steps:

1: Boil 3 cups water.   
2: Combine 1 cup water with cornmeal and salt.   
3: Add cornmeal mix to boiling water. Stir until mixture returns to a boil.   
4: Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.   
5: Pour into a greased 4 × 8 loaf pan.   
6: Chill for 8 hours or overnight.   
7: Slice and fry until browned on each side.   
8: Serve with syrup.
