Cornbread

Ingredients:

• Cooking spray to grease pan
• ¼ cup butter or margarine
• 1 cup milk
• 1 large egg
• 1¼ cups yellow cornmeal
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• ¼ cup sugar
• 1 Tbs baking powder
• ½ tsp salt

Prep Steps:

1: Spray bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with cooking spray.

Steps:

1: Heat oven to 500°F.   
2: Melt butter in the microwave.   
3: In a large bowl, beat butter, milk, and egg with a fork or whisk until well mixed.   
4: Add cornmeal, flour, sugar, powder, and salt, all at once.   
5: Stir just until flour is moistened. Batter will be lumpy.   
6: Pour into pan. Spread evenly, and smooth the top.   
7: Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and the bread tests done with a toothpick.   

Comments:

The recipe as we found it, on BettyCrocker.com from a Google search, used ½ cup of sugar, which was way too much.
