Beer Bread

This bread gives a chewy crust and a soft, almost spongy middle. You can make it with pretty much any beer or malt-based alcoholic beverage (such as flavored coolers).

Ingredients:

• 3 cups self-rising flour
• ½ cup granulated sugar
• 1½ cups beer

Steps:

1: Heat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2: Mix the ingredients.
3: Pour batter into a suitable pan. (I have typically used a round casserole or cake mold.)
4: Bake for 1 hour.

Comments:

Part of the brilliance of this recipe is its simplicity. With American ingredient measurements, it's easy to remember as "three and a half, one, three and a half, one." (3 cups, ½ cup, 1 can of beer, 3½ hundred degrees, 1 hour.)
